Dear Mr. Guru: I’m Disappointed in You
By Patricia Mayo • Apr 30th, 2008 • Category: Persuasionby Patricia Mayo
A little while ago, I posted a little ditty on reading between the lines in Internet Marketing. One of the things I mentioned was to read the benefits and see if you could predict what they’re selling.

Well, I analyze a lot of lists from a lot of supposed top marketers to keep up to date. Today, one big name “guru” sent me a whopping sob story about getting slapped by Google and losing millions, and blah blah blah.

But, as he goes on to say, this other guy didn’t lose millions. In fact, this guy was completely untouched. I present to you, Benefits Exhibit A:
– Get your Adwords clicks at wholesale prices (for 30-70% less than retail)…
– Make over ONE MILLION dollars in less than 9 months (while building a list of more than 40,000 rabid buyers)…
– Have lucrative JV offers lined up at your door…
– Easily TRIPLE your ROI from Google Adwords…
What is this “Guru” talking about? None other than content network ads. Dude. What the heck are you thinking?
Just tell me the solution is content ads served by Google. You would’ve saved me the 5 minutes to read and delete this email.
Are You Being Served?
Sure, some newbies might not know what the benefits of content network ads are, but I know they aren’t dependent on your landing page’s SEO, which in turn decreases cost. I know they’re based on CPM instead of CPC which typically increases ROI by leaps and bounds.
And chances are, if I know what content ads are, then I know what they do but probably not how to use them. If I didn’t know what content ads do, then I probably don’t even know that they’re called content network ads.
Just say it! You will save the smart folks some time while keeping the “newbie bottom line” intact.
This is what I meant by the marketer might not be too transparent on what they’re selling. They might be selling something you already know. Just think for a moment, read the benefits, and you won’t get scammed.
P.S. From what I hear through the grape vine of the other IMs I know, the guy who sent me this email is a Dick Nixon anyways. His ideas and concepts are very refreshing, but he doesn’t seem to practice what he preaches.
Who is this guy? Rich Schefren. Remember that name. His stuff isn’t total junk, but I wouldn’t go breaking the bank to drink his kool-aid.
